¡Jesús Vive!

October 28, 2019

¡Hola Y'all!

Wow hi it's been a good like three days since y'all last heard from me hahah but this weekend was sweet! Nothing too exciting happened, just lots of door knocking and trying to find anyone and everyone that wants to learn about Jesus:)

On Sunday though, we got to go to another church in the morning before ours, bc Hermana Romney was playing the piano for their Primary Program. Y'all. Picture a whole bunch of little kids singing in Spanish and saying their little testimonies about the church. Literally so cute. This one CUTE little boy named Francisco went up to the microphone, and he just kind of stood there and smiled at everyone for a few seconds, and then he yelled "¡Jesús vive!" and did a little fist pump. That's the mood over here honestly.

Also speaking of that, there's a scripture that I really love a whole lot in John 12:36 that says, "While ye have light, believe in the light, that ye may be the children of light." We have light! Jesus is the light of the world and we have him! As little Francisco so eloquently put it, Jesus Christ lives! I know that as we believe in Him and follow Him, we will be able to become "children of light." That's not to say that we will never find ourselves in darkness, but with Him the darkness is bearable bc he has overcome it all:)

I love each of you so so much and I LOVE being a missionary! I hope y'all have a super fun and safe Halloween and send me pics! I love seeing and hearing about what y'all are up too!!

Con todo mi Amor,
Hermana Brayton:)

BEST DAY EVER!

October 25, 2019

¡Holaaaa y'all!!

Okay so sorry I forgot to tell everyone that my pday got moved to today hahaha mi mal. But! It's been such a good past 11 ish days!! Honestly, I don't even know where to start so I'll just start with the best, TONY GOT BAPTIZED ON SUNDAY!!!! It was soooo amazing, and truly the best day ever :) He was so happy and there were so many people that came bc he's actually the first person that's been baptized in Bonita Park! The people were so excited that this sweet Hermana made 300 tamales for it!! So we definitely had a party, and I know people in Heaven were partying too ;) He just kept saying over and over again that he felt like a new man. AH, I love being a missionary!! WOW!! OH and also my 11-year-old skater boy friend came to church a d stayed for the baptism!! It was such a perfect day I swear.

We also had Zone Conference last week which was super cool! We talked about all of the invitations that Jesus has given us, like "look unto me," "learn of me," "follow me," "trust in me," "come unto me," and I just think those are all super cool and humbling. Sister Golden talked a lot about having gratitude in all things, and we watched a few of the new Light the World videos! Y'all, I'm so excited for Christmas. You can watch the videos and also learn more. Check it out ~lighting the world~ at lighttheworld.org :)

Yesterday I went on exchanges with Sister Nui from Hawaii and she's the best ever. We went chalking (like writing and drawing with chalk on the sidewalks) at this Park, and a little boy walked past us with his mom and was like "Mommy they're being nice to Jesus!" And my heart really just melted then and there. Que lindo. Oh and also this week, Hermana Romney and I herded cats in real life, so that was fun.

Okay also, this week I was listening to a talk by Brad Wilcox called "His Grace is Sufficient" and 12/10 would recommend listening to it bc it is SO GOOD! One of my favorite quotes from it is "We are all pulling for you. Jesus is pulling with you." And that my friends, is the truth and I know it is. I love Jesus. And hey I hope everyone has a great weekend!! I'll talk to y'all soon!

Con Amor,

Turn Your Eyes upon JESUS

October 14, 2019

¡Hola Y'alllll!

Everything is so so good up here in Bonita Park! Things have been kind of crazy bc transfers were on Tuesday, and I have a new companion! Her name is Hermana Romney (2nd cousins with Mitt Romney bc I know y'all were wondering) and she's from Salt Lake City and she's SUCH an amazing missionary. There are so many things I have to learn from her. But yeah, this week has been a big transition for both of us, but just know that great things are about to happen here:)

One SUPER exciting thing is that Tony is getting baptized!!! Next Sunday right after church. It's about to be a straight party!!! This lady from church said she's going to bring 300 tamales, ¡hijole! I'm pumped :)

Not a ton else really exciting happened this week. Lots of talking to so many cool people, and lots of getting to know the members in the branch more. Oh we did try and clean out the little attic/closet thing in our apartment bc there was a ton of stuff that old missionaries had just left behind, and we found like 4 trashbags full of Jesus t-shirts and sweatshirts. Ya les saben, I had to snag some.

But okay the subject of my email is from an absolute BOP by Lauren Daigle, please listen to it. But also it's just a good reminder I think too :) In the scriptures, it says super often that Jesus is the Light of the world! That actually would be a cool little scripture study thing to just see exactly how many times it says that in the Book of Mormon and in the Bible. But hey, just remember that Jesus loves you no matter what, and that he truly is our constant light to follow and keep our eyes on.

Love y'all sooo so much and I'm so grateful for all of the love that you show me! I hope everyone has a great week!

Con Amor,
Hermana Brayton:)

Who You Are and What You Stand For" -G

October 7,2019

¡Holaaaaa Y'all!

What's up everyone? All good things I hope, bc Jesus loves you :) This week was kind of a wild one so sit tight for the recap:

-On Tuesday we were just walking along, as missionaries do, and we saw this lady pulling weeds in her yard and asked her if she needed help. SO we pulled weeds in our dresses for about an hour, learned a ton about this girl's life, and then she gave us some avocados off her little avocado tree. Such a fun time :)
-We met a guy from Slovakia who took some Russian in school, so I was pumped to say two out of the three Russian phrases I know to him.
-Wednesday we met up with our friend Tony who we actually stopped teaching about a month ago, and y'all he has completely changed his life and it is so so cool! I am SO excited to see what's going to happen these next few weeks with him.
-We went to institute down on Cal State Fullerton's campus and that was honestly a party. It was just a bunch of college kids all learning about Jesus, and I am here for it.
-Friday we played volleyball with out friends for the last time and that was SAD!
-This weekend was General Conference, but I'll get back to that later:)
-Sunday we went by to see Fifi and I literally love that girl with my whole heart. She kept saying how sometimes she get lonely bc her kids and grandkids are super busy and it broke my heart everytime. So PLEASE y'all make time for the people you love, even if it's just a phone call :)
-Lastly and certainly not least, HERMANA HINTON IS LEAVING ME. She got called to be a Sister Training Leader, and she's literally going to be the best ever :') But bc of that and bc I'm officially done with training (whoop whoop) I'm getting a new companion tomorrow! I'm excited though, a new perspective is always good :)

Okay okay so most of y'all know that General Conference was this weekend, (which is when the Prophet and Apostles and others prepare talks and messages for everyone in the whole wide world, and we get to watch it on TV or online) and it was SO GOOD! I love President Nelson, and I know for surely he is called of God. A big thing that I took out of it was that we all need to remember WHO WE ARE. I love what Elder M. Russell Ballard said, that we are "first and foremost" spiritual beings, CHILDREN of GOD. By knowing that we are all truly children of God, we will be able to also recognize who we can become and what we are capable of. I know we are all capable of so much more than we give ourselves credit, and there are so many unimaginable blessings coming our way Hans T. Boom said that to help ourselves and others realize who we are, we should "create an environment of love where others can feel empowered." I'm 100% here for empowering people, bc honestly everyone deserves to know their worth and divine potential. And if any of you know my sweet Grandpa down in SC, you've heard "remember who you are and what you stand for," and that my friends is exactly what we need to do :)

Two more quick quotes that I loved are that "The joy we feel in our lives has little to do with our circumstance, and everything to do with our focus," and also that "In the world, we will face tribulation, but Jesus Christ has overcome the world." I just think those two go perfectly together, bc it's so true that there are some really hard things that happen in our lives that would make it very easy to be sad and bitter all the time. BUT when we focus on the never-ending, unconditional love that Jesus Christ has for us, we can feel true and lasting joy :)

I love love love y'all so much, and really truly I could go on forever about conference, but this email is already long and it would be better to hear it firsthand for yourselves anyways ;) Have a great week everyone les amo muchisimo!!

Con Amor,
Hermana Brayton :)
