Family History, Chameleons, and Heaven's Playbook

Nov 18, 2019

¡Hola Y'aaall!

HI GUESS WHAT I'M MOVING!! I'm moving from sweet La Habra down to Santa Ana!! I'm soo so excited too!! It's going to be such a party :) I have loved it up here so much and I can't even tell you all the things I've learned, but I'm always ready to go somewhere new and see some new things.

This week we were able to go with Tony down to the Family History Center in Orange, and it was SO cool. He had asked his mom and grandma for some names and birthdays of his great and great great grandparents before hand, so we were able to get right down to business and start searching up his people. It was so amazing to just see his family tree grow, and he really really enjoyed it. There's something so personal and sacred about learning more about your ancestors I think. While we were there I was able to read a story about my great-great-great-grandma (I think) who was born in South Africa, and then came to the US and traveled a long and hard road out to Utah with her family, and wow I seriously loved it. 12/10 recommend Family Search!

We were also able to meet the cutest family ever this week at a little Noche de Hogar our branch put on on Tuesday. We were supposed to go over to their house and visit them on Wednesday, but things got crazy and they weren't able to. But on Thursday we went and brought them some brownies and right whenever we walked in the complex, the two little girls were outside playing and they ran up and gave us the biggest hugs! We walked with them over to their house where their mom was cleaning and listening to some Kendrick Lamar, and they start telling us about their pet chameleon they just got and their two pet snakes. I LOVE them. They let us play with their chameleon for a little bit while we talked and I just could not stop smiling because seriously you could feel the love they had in their home. I love being able to meet such amazing people here, wow.

Also on Thursday, I went on exchanges just for the morning down in Long Beach and I got to see the OCEAN and can I just say I missed that guy. The ocean and the beach always reminds me of home, and it was so warm, and you could just smell the salty air. Honestly that is exactly my happy place.

Yesterday at church, this sweet Hermana gave a talk about Heaven's playbook and how we really have it today. We really have the resources that we need to progress and learn and grow in this life and to prepare to return to live with our Heavenly Father. The Bible and the Book of Mormon are sooo so incredible and important, and honestly how blessed are we that we have them available right at our fingertips? SO blessed!! She ended with saying "No es fácil, pero es posible. Y oración nunca falla." I know it's not easy, but more than that I know it's possible with our playbooks we have, and especially through prayer!!

I am so grateful everyday to be here and to have the opportunity to talk and think about the blessings we have so often. And I know it's all thanks to our loving Heavenly Father and our Savior Jesus Christ. I wish I would've taken advantage of the scriptures more before to learn more about them and our playbook, but it's never too late! I love y'all sooo so much! Have an amazing week!

Con Amor,
Hermana Brayton:)

Grateful

November 11, 2019

¡Hola Hola Y'all!

How is everyone this week? So good I hope :) Things here in Bontia Park are bonita for sure. Hermana Romney and I have been keeping up with our bucket list, and we talked to 192 people this week! And we found the cutest two moms that really wanted to learn more, so I'm super excited about that.

Not a super ton happened this week though honestly. Tony is just a serious rock star and he's doing so well. This week we're going to a family history library with him and I'm so pumped :) Other than that though everyone in the branch is super sad Hermana Romney is leaving bc she's the one that actually knows Spanish hahah but it's all good.

Oh but we did have the idea to make a little gratitude tree this weekend, and we went to downtown Brea and just asked people to add little leaves for things they're grateful for. It was so cute and so fun, and it reminded me a lot of my sweet Grammy bc she always has her little gratitude tree for Thanksgiving :) I was honestly kind of surprised though at how some people were kind of stumped about what they were thankful for. But I guess there really are just so many things it's hard to pick just one!

One thing that I'm SUPER grateful for, which I'm sure you all know by now, is the Book of Mormon! I was reading in it the other day, and there is a scripture in Moroni that tells us that everyone has the "Spirit of Christ" in them. Everyone can know right from wrong and everyone can feel the goodness of Jesus Christ and our loving Heavenly Father! This "Spirit of Christ" is what invites us all to do good and to serve those around us, and it's just starting to be the season where I think everyone feels that a little more strongly. There's also a promise in the Book of Mormon in Mosiah 4 that we will have happier lives as we serve others and forget about ourselves! There's a quote that I absolutely love that's from Thomas S Monson, and it says that we don't find happy lives, we make them, and I know that by serving and truly loving those around us, reading the Book of Mormon and the Bible, and being grateful to God in all things, we can make our lives so happy!

I'm so grateful for all of y'all and for the happiness that each of you bring me! I would love to hear what y'all are grateful for too, so let me know!!

Con Amor,
Hermana Brayton :)

John 15 and Halloween

November 04, 2019

¡Hola Y'all!

Bonita Park is beautiful and sunny California still has my heart. There wasn't a ton going on this week, but we had some good moments for sure:)

Since Hermana Romney only has about 2 weeks left on her mission, we made a bucket list to keep things exciting, and we crossed a ton of stuf off of it this week. We talked to over 100 people, met people from 11 different countries, carved pumpkins on Halloween, heart-attacked someone, had a chapel tour, and did a service project! The chapel tour was super sweet and the spirit was so strong there with our sweet friend Eder,  but our service project was kind of a joke hahah but it was fun! We just went to a Lutheran church and made a bunch of phone calls asking people for their emails, but like half of them didn't have email bc they didn't know how to work their computers hahah cutie pies.

Halloween was honestly one of my favorite days ever bc first of all, I love Halloween and second of all, little kids in their little costumes makes my heart MELT. And the people here really go all out with their decorations and it reminds me so much of my cute parents and all of their crazy decorations :')  But we couldn't be out past 6pm or dress up, so that kind of rained on my Halloween-Spirit, but all truly is well.

Sunday was cute bc Tony officially got confirmed!! And also this CUTE little baby of our friend Diamela that we're teaching got blessed so that was exciting :) Sunday was also my sweet, amazing, beautiful mom's birthday! So everyone please give her big fat hugs for me!!

This week I've been reading a lot in John in the New Testament, and let me just say I love that guy. I loved chapter 15 so much, bc in it Jesus invites us all to abide in Him. I thought that was super interesting bc there's this hymn that I really love called "Abide With Me" and it's kind of like us asking Christ to stay with us all the time and never leave us, but here in the chapter he's asking us to do the same thing with him. He basically says that as we abide in him, we can do all things and so much goodness will come! He also calls us his friends in verse 14 and I love that.

But yeah I love all of you sooo so much and I hope everyone has a great week and remembers that Jesus is your friend! Thank you for everything!!

Con Amor,
Hermana Brayton:)

We're not allowed to dress up...but if I was I might be Rosie the Riveter 💪
